I am one of planners of the East Bay Anarchist Bookfair and am also one
of the facilitators of the "Art and Anarchy" conversation at the
BookFair. The conversation itself deals with a serious theme, though
the presentation will also be a bit of a goof, with the two
facilitators assuming the personas of William Blake and Thomas Pynchon.
At any rate we would heartily welcome your contributions to the
Art/Anarchy conversation. The East Bay Anarchist Book Fair
<http://eastbayanarchist.com/> will be held tomorrow, Oct. 26 at the
Humanist Hall at 390 27th Street, Oakland, CA, 94612, (between Broadway
and Telegraph).

While never declaring hijmself an anarchist Pynchon has definitley been
a fellow traveler, and his work has had a major, though unacknowledged,
influence on contemporary Anarchist Theory and Practice. From
the_Temporary Autonomous Zones_ essay by Hakim Bey to _Days of War,
Nights of Love_ by the Crimethinc ex-workers collective, his influence
has been extensive.

I'm personally intrigued by how both Pynchon and the Situationists deal
with the same concepts, particularly, Spectacular Society. Though
/Gravity's Rainbow /was published in 1973 and an english translation
of/Society/ /of the Spectacle /had not been published until 1971, how
much /Gravity/ was directly influenced by /Society/ is unclear. What is
clear, (or deluded), in my mind is that were taking different
approaches to dealing with the same thing. Ken Knabb who translated
of/Society of the Spectacle/ is also tabling at the bookfair and has
told me that he hopes to attend the conversation.

May the Counterforce be with You,

Glenn Fuller
