Let them eat gas

In my mind I've been remembering the Holocaust and all the people who are aghast that we didn't get involved in WWII earlier and how many lives we could have saved. And now we see exactly why we didn't. In the US there is, and has been ever since the Mexican War, a huge anti-war sentiment unless we have been personally attacked in some way (including capitalist fears of governments who nationalize companies and resources).
If you, a 6-foot 200 pound male age about 30, see a 13-year old beating the crap out of a 5-year old what do you do? To ignore it co-signs the 6th grader's actions - to get involved assures the 5-year old's safety. There is no "fair" grouping to stop the fight. And in the case at hand, the 5-year old is likely to jump on us and start scratching and kicking - (the new regime would be worse).
I have no idea if I'm for or against action in Syria - I wish we had a more forceful UN or something but I'm not sure that wouldn't be more of the same from a different source. The other nations have spoken anyway - without a formal "vote."
