There's something beautifully circular, in the Lewis Carroll/Monty Python
vein, about the basic reasoning on display:
1) What we will/may do is explicitly symbolic, not intended to topple
the regime, choose sides or change the outcome
2) With all its risks, it must be done because if we don't do the
symbolic/ineffective things we have promised to do, the world will no longer
take us seriously
