That's quite a heading to use for a post on thisheer list, but..
The other day, I was in my local used bookstore, or as I like to refer to
it, Mecca, as it lies to the east, and, well, you get the rest, and, in the
the cheap seats, otherwise known as the discount rack, I came across five
volumes of Janwillem van de Wettering's Amsterdam cops series, which I used
to own in it's entirety, but which, in some manic purge, relating to
possibly a move, or to the inability to navigate whatever cubbyhole I
happened to be occupying at the moment, ended up being traded in at
whichever local Mecca happened to be in the vicinity at the moment, (always
a sadly misguided act, in hindsight) and at which I was invariably an avid
worshiper. Well, being the opportunistic sort, I snapped up said volumes at
the astonishing price of $2 per, and they are now enshrined in my current
cubbyhole, awaiting my attention, along with many more volumes of the holy
writ that may never gain said active attention, but sit there, ensconced,
nevertheless. May I say, my fellow worshipers at the altar of fine fiction,
that if you have never perused these volumes, they are absolutely (and here
I will use a word I have never, in memory, used before, but which seems apt
in the present circumstance) delightful, and I highly recommend them.
Ain't it grand what grog can do fur ya! Happy friday the thirteenth, ya'll
(as we say it down here), and only four days till you know wut!
