Based on 
(1)    the large number and concentrated timing of reviews and articles (well played, Penguin)
(2)    their consensus that this is “approachable Pynchon” rather than “daunting uberbrain Pynchon,” regardless of the reviewers’ evaluation
(3)    the high density of book purchasers and purchase-influencers in NYC and especially on the Upper West Side
(4)    the plentiful hooks for both East Coast digerati (“what’s his take on Silicon Alley and the dotcom boom/bust?”) and almost everyone else (“what’s his take on 9/11?”)…
 
I’ll be surprised if BE doesn’t sell significantly more out of the gate than any of P’s previous books.
