Enjoyable read, but I'm not compelled to set aside other priorities to read it. Heading for page 300 and still finding it much of a muchness, he may have adopted the crime novel format but the best of them are punctuated with revalations and knottings into, which are lacking here. Insufficient dynamic tension I'd say. But then c'mon he's 76 not 40. It is a relaxed riff on his way of seeing and not much more.

It strikes me as being a novel for New Yorkers and those who know the city well. I can check out the references but picking up on them as you read has to be a more pleasurable experience.
