There are fewer fantastic tangents in BE & IV than the rest. No
Byrons, no ninja acadamies, no priests romancing rats... That's the
main diff. I perceive. The plot ain't exactly buried, compared to the
rest. The main failing in re: th' newer two could be that the cultures
P is panning for material are, well, to call 'em sorta shallow is a
kindness. Surfer dropout society ain't my bag, for sure. Finance
leaves me dry, too, but I at least know tech-heads & gamers, and
having lived in Va. when Bush took office, I can relate to The Fear of
waking one Sept. day to discover state troopers in the streets with
shotguns. The drug & sex humor I find to be more whiffers than hits,
which is a shame, but I ain't half done; he may rebound in that dept.
yet. (I find Maxine's sexual attitudes smarter than Sportello's, thank
fug.)

Anyroad. Not being hypo- or hyper- critical regarding either. I always
enjoy the ride, even if I'm not sure we ever quite arrived. Your
mileage may, nay, will vary. But hey, it's okay!
