The Underrated, Universal Appeal of Science Fiction

Haven't read any of this guy's stuff, but I think I'd like to sit down and
have a beer with him.

This reminds me tangentially of a conversation I had when I had the
opportunity to work with songwriter John Felice. I dismissed one of the
tunes I was working on as a genre exercise. His response was an indignant
"So what the hell is wrong with that?" He defended my work to me, amazed
that I would not take something I did seriously simply because it followed
a conventional set of rules well.
