Well, Russia will need to come to terms with its very small power
position on the globe. Having a pile of nuclear weapons is not all
that important anymore. Next to the economic powers of the US &
Europe, not to mention the populations, the political liberties, the
technologies and educations, infrastructures etc., Russia is a bit
player. The wild card in this is the decoupling of the economies. The
USA is in a long recovery that is now positioned to take off, while
Europe continues to slide back into recessions and deeper depressions.
So, the gas...etc., but resolve will pay off, Putin will, after having
his ass kicked, retire to Florida.
Imagine the outrage in Washington if China built an impressive
military alliance and
>> tried to include Canada and Mexico in it. Logic aside, Russian leaders have
>> told their Western counterparts on many occasions that they consider NATO
>> expansion into Georgia and Ukraine unacceptable, along with any effort to
>> turn those countries against Russia -- a message that the 2008
>> Russian-Georgian war also made crystal clear.
