One can try going Direct to the publisher(s). (Amazon has bullied many
major publishers about that, particularly about discounting (since
they can sell cheaper by cutting out the wholesaler/retailer take)
Indie bookstores all over.

There is also B & N, the last major bookstore group around. and B & N.com
Buying second hand/ used bookstore books deprives the writer of
royalties, If that matters to you.(I do it for public domain books and
for some by living writers I think are well off enough not to suffer
over one lost sale.) But that's just me.
