Listening to Inherent Vice

While waiting for the movie to open. (It's so witty, very manneredly so( he IS no " realist")  but I laugh out loud w certain "jokes"and it is so light and spoofy) .all spoof, all the way down.... all the Chandler/noir tropes so self-consciously used....with, so far, Bigfoot providing most of the skewed perspective. The Reader is real good......noticing and liking how the hippies are fully satirized too......Dennis, for example......"DRUG"..."STORE".....man.....

I think TRP had lots of fun writing it and I am always struck with how his later books seem written by some one much younger while Early work had Big Cap Stuff like Entropy, Information Theory, History-Chasing, Symbolic Women,etc....

The incredible lightness of his later vision.
