Hi Paul, glad to meet ya.
The Host's 'duties' are to lead the discussion around the pages in
chosen sections as they can and see fit. it can be as varied as
personality.
Point to the text and ....say something. Ask questions. Have observations.
One can annotate words or phrases as much of the Pynchon wiki
does.....but more and differently, of course. One can riff on the
wile's annotations.
One can point to P's words, events, characters, ideas in his other works.
One can point to the real world as one thinks something in M & D
speaks about it.
One can point and say, "I love that section, metaphor, those
lines....with or without giving reasons. One can say "I don't like
this, that or thotherm with or without reasons.
One can find meaning(s) or think to.
One can just quote a line and annotate "LOL".
All of us can then comment as we see fit. Words lead to words, lead to
obs, lead to ideas, lead to judgment(s), lead to where one wants to
go--or is led.
One's next reading will be different and ......better, I daresay.
There is no reading only rereading wrote V. Nabokov, who has written
he did not 'get' Crime& Punishment until the 3rd reading.
And we aren't him.
Best,
mark

> Hello everyone. I've been a p-list lurker/very occasional poster for about 2 years now, but I'd love to become more active for this reading. That being said, I can't find any details besides the schedule. What are the host's responsibilities? Where does the discourse occur?
