such people will no doubt appear in some form in Coover's upcoming Brunist
Day of Wrath. Like Nixon's shennigans in the mid-70s which due to the fluid
nature of the last years and months of his polluted reign, Coover had to
adjust his novel The Public Burning accordingly. Somewhat similar is
Coover's ideas for a sequel to his first novel, already in the planning
stages in the late 60s which was given a major boost from the rise of
religious right in the 80s and the eventual assumption of George W. Bush to
the throne, a novel for which he has been writing for the last decade
exclusively.
