Yep,  that's what Hustvedt used as some kind of inspiration (or something) and it works as an allusion on several levels. (Fwiw, Hustvedt is married to Paul Auster and this is her 6th novel.) 

I also started the Cavendish book and want to finish it after the Hustvedt. But the latter has me pretty locked in right now.
