Anybody interested in Project Paperclip should probably stay away from the Jacobson book

you'll ask for details, madam alice. far be it for me to give u chapter and
verse. not sure i can even explain. i'm different myself from 20 yrs ago,
too. i'm not asking for anything, but the last 20 yrs of Pynchon feels like
a friend I no longer recognize. but i feel that way about most things
nowadays. he still remains an old lover once cherished like a girl i once
know, riding by her house every year, longing to stop, but knew I'd have
nothing to say. out of ideas? maybe its just middle age--a parody of once
passionate longing, worthy only of a brief knowing smirk, the insufferable
self-satisfaction most of us carry around
