See the Guardian piece on Putin's propaganda.
Military strategy 101: defend, defend, defend, don't wait for an attack,
defend. So Turkey, a member of NATO, is defended with NATO Patriots on the
Syrian boarder etc.
The sanctions will sting. And he must be punished. Remember, Russia is an
emerging economy by definition. It exports commodities and resources at 25%
of gdp. The super cycle of commodities is over. Look at copper. Look at the
crb. The tide is coming into the us from the EM economies. The PIIGs are
still hurting Europe. The fragile five are still fragile. The bricks are in
a vice. Russia's timing, for propaganda purposes is excellent, but it is
the markets that will matter over the next couple of years and here
Russia's timing could not be worse. The us economy is shifting into
investment spending. That means more energy production technology and
capacity. Pip and capacity up today in the us. This in a bitter winter. And
Yellen will be tapering.
