Frenesi betrayed Weed Atman and he ends up dead. 

Maxine, a generation younger than Frenesi, betrays no one, tries to save a guy who ends up dead. She, fucking her -ex, still maintains an integrity in being human. That is, she doesn't betray anyone. She is not the 60's Vineland embodiment of Frenesi. 

She works outside the law and ' must be honest'. She ( and her kids, moments with) are the future.
