NP - Mood Indigo (Gondry)

The original French title of Boris Vian's 1947 novel is 'L'Écume des jours' -- which politely translated is 'The Foam (or) Froth of Our Days', but based on Vian's other works (e.g. 'I Spit on Your Graves') it should be 'The Scum of Our Days'.  Vian died in  1959 at the age of 39. So rather than Pynchon influencing Vian the opposite might be more likely.  Also of interest Vian like Pynchon studied mathematics while in college /university. 

Because of the many jazz references and the Mood Indigo ------- running theme ( emanating from the magical piano  that throughout plays by itself reflecting the state and mood of the main characters, the lovers  Colin & Chloe, ) or should I say, just as Proust did for Erik Satie,  a musical refrain paying homage to Duke Ellington (BTW Vian was his liaison, as well as for many other American jazz musicians,  whenever he was in Paris, Vian was a American jazz fanatic and jazz music critic ----------------Barney Rosset and Richard Howard (the 1st translator for the 1968 Grove Press edition) decided on Mood Indigo,  bad choice for this very magical, charming and above all iconoclastic tale.

  A psychedelic movie. Clearly influenced by Pee Wee Herman, Peter Gabriel, Terry Gilliam, and Pynchon.
