Just read it for enjoyment - don’t worry about the “meaning” or the symbolism or whatever.  Just get the characters and the story under your belt.  Then, if you enjoyed it, read it another couple times and see what you make of it.  And then if you’re still interested read Bryan Boyd ’s stuff - book and articles.  Incredible stuff.   

I believe we did a group read here many years (a decade???) ago or so.
