So I watch a TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES show w my grandson, chuckling with the surprise that, of course they might come out from underground sewers. I make no easy connections.
Then I learn that the two creators of the comic book back in the early 80s were influenced by Frank Miller's comic work.
then I learn " we knew a lot of TMNT would be set in the storm drains and sewers and back alleys of the city, and we figured a common denizen of those places was the humble rat. " named Splinter. Say the creators.
Superfighters from the sewers led by a rat. If it is mythic, it could only be a modern one.
