Worth a revisit, here is Judt's Op_Ed in the NYT, Dec. 2004.

In his Post War, a book many here are quite familiar with, Judt bangs
this drum over and over, the Americans don't see Europe but through a
glass half full when the truth is that the glass is half empty and
tainted with blood and history the Americans neither knew nor know of.
