In the new book on the Tolkien, Lewis group called The Inklings,
there is a cameo biography of Owen Barfield. It is interesting.
It presents his lifelong belief that poetry, poetic writing contains
SOMETHING in its style, form, etc. that transcends the meaning of
the content, or it isn't poetic.
And his lifelong search for cultural meanings through the historic meaning of
words. Proto-McLuhan someone once said of him. And if you want an outline
of Rudolf Steiner and his views, they were important to Barfield, and contained
herein as well.
