Have not seen Luther. I enjoyed True Detective, even the second season, and
of course The Wire but was not nearly as engaged as I was with Sopranos and
Mad Men. A lot of that might have to do with how I watched them. I did not
see The Wire as it aired but instead watched every episode at my leisure,
often like 4 or 5 episodes at a time. With Mad Men and Sopranos I could
digest every episode for a week and the entire season over the long breaks.
And it worked really well for those shows because each episode was self
contained despite not being a procedural. Every season was self contained
too. The structure of both shows was well crafted for TV. True Detective
did not work like that, felt more like an 8 hour movie. Was enjoyable but
not in the same way, not as engaging.
Other TV I love though for different reasons is the original Twilight Zone.
My mom had every episode on VHS so it was ritual for me. Also the X Files.
I just think it came out at the perfect time for me, while I was in HS and
getting stoned all the time. Still enjoy it today though.
Currently, since Mad Men concluded, haven't been into much. I should give
more of them a try though. I looked up Peaky Blinders and I thinkbibwanna
give that a shot. I love a good old gangster yarn. Boardwalk Empire was
okay, ending was terrible though.
