Well, the fact that the family employed an out of town ambulance chaser who
will only get paid if the family sees cash (and the ridiculousness of the
documents he filed) kind of tells me that arcane legal mumbo-jumbo has less
to do with it than a chance at a big payday. But for me, what makes it
obviously a hoax is that the kid didn't make the clock. He just dumped the
guts of a clock into a briefcase-shaped pencil box. So if it wasn't an
invention, he didn't have any real reason to bring it to school to show
off. There's more, but that was the turning point for me. He said he
brought it to show off what he'd "invented". He didn't invent shit. And he
KNEW it looked suspicious (said so in an interview before his big sister
forbade him from doing any more interviews without her feeding him lines,
and only over the phone).
