My favorite bit so far has to be Amalfitano reading the letters of Lola. I
do not see exactly how it all fits together yet since I am only halfway
through. My thinking is along your lines though, rich, the detached catalog
of violence does fit, as the physical center as well as the, for lack of a
better word, spiritual center, of the novel. Still, it's not easy for me to
read. Especially since it is a big departure from the tone of everything
else thus far.
To be clear, I trust BolaƱo. This is, so far, one of the best books I've
read in a long time (aside from GR of course). And I imagine I will have a
lot more to say at the end of it all. Holding back for the end. I'm happy
so many of you have read it though because I don't know anyone else who has.
