Thanks for reminding of this. I had actually read The Ski Bum and,
rereading this, and having learned more about Romain Gary's
life recently, it seems TRP's judgment and wishes for him got worked
out in a very interesting way.
Mr. Gary so hated, felt so trapped in his successful but unoriginal life
that he broke out of it by creating an alter identity as a
writer..........a real
opposite to his bourgeois life....
