The quality of the historical novels published in 2014 has been
exceptional, and writers, whether inspired by landmark anniversaries,
or encouraged by the reading public's growing appetite for good books
set in the past, have produced an extraordinary array of time-machine
novels this year." - Alastair Moffat, chair of the judging panel for
the Walter Scott Prize.

Why do we no longer read Walter Scott, huge in his time and for long
after but we do Jane Austen
(who Walter was one of few to praise to the skies)?

Walter Scott had an incredible mind...could memorize swaths of poetry
effortlessly.
knew "everything"...got the history right, all say.....could do plot........

just an early morning boring thread, let it be....
