Getting back to the original discussion about The Honorable Woman, I have to say, I was disappointed by it. Thought Maggie G. Was great(though I admittedly have no ability to assess how well she handled the Brit accent), but I couldn't stand all the melodrama, and the convoluted motivations of the evil Americans (no argument with that)seemed pretty absurd.
I'm currently enjoying the English-subtitled version of Deutschland 83. It's similarly contrived, but doesn't pretend to be deeper than it is, and is often very funny. My favorite moment: the spy, sent to photograph some documents, is confounded by the discovery that the classified info is stored on one of those new-fangled floppy discs.

Are the apartments huge palaces that nobody could afford with the characters' jobs?

This is a crazy-funny alternate take of the "Friends" sitcom model: NYC roomies comedy, dark side.
