Chap 13 p. 125. "it certainly isn't Cape Town"..
"Fog begins to stir against the Day swelling near."...
Besides the foreshadowing phrase of his next book,
this reminds me of the icy fog image that surrounded
Philadelphia earlier......Maybe way that TRP tries
to capture the uncertainty (of the future) of this new world?
Who are the "novice Company Writers too perplex'd to sleep"?
This outpost, John Company, see more of TRP's wonderful
lyricism in the description is "Mazy as a European City...no end
of corners yet to be turned".....
I suggest this is part of P's most positive vision of community life.
There is a fuller creation of such a European City/village in
Against the Day.......
Not created as a [Cartesian] grid---like Slaughterhouse Chicago--
not P's right-angled trope but curvy; streets which developed naturally,
by human walking....
