S/B though NOT for lack of effort....because science has contributed
to its poor public image even with its campaigns to improve its image
with the public.

How about Pynchon? His scientists are mostly priests haunted, but he
seems to love them, even crazy Nevil Maskelyne here, a man over the
moon has qualities we can admire....well....Mason does.
