NP: Just shameful self-promotion

Hi Pynchonoids,

I'm launching a facebook page for a sci-fi series I've been working on over the past year or so. My goal is to build up a fan base for the show, and hopefully convince a tech company, or some other entity, to fund the pilot episode.

In service of this goal, I've spent the last couple of months creating a promo trailer (read: commercial) for the series, which is called Green Screen. It's my first-ever video project, and, whether it helps me sell my project or not, it's been lots of fun. Nothing like creative control for a wannabe screenwriter!

Green Screen isn't strictly NP. It was inspired, in part, by COL 49. I always thought it would be a cool idea to update W.A.S.T.E. for the internet age. Hand-delivering paper messages takes on a whole new significance in the light of internet surveillance and hacking.

Other influences: The Prisoner - in part, Green Screen could be seen as a version of the Prisoner seen from the viewpoint of his captors; Black Mirror (well, I saw it after I wrote my pilot episode, but Green Screen similarly examines the effects of social media, wearable tech, etc.); Rainbows End, by Vernor Vinge; Existence, by David Brin - both of which have great descriptions of smartware and wearable tech.

Here's the logline for Green Screen: In the near future, Dr. Helen Monroe, an idealistic neuroscientist, is recruited to treat a mysterious patient suffering from severe amnesia, by using a neural-interface form of therapy that plunges the patient into movie scenarios. Gradually, Monroe realizes that her patient is actually a prisoner – of a conspiracy to control the human race via brain implants – and, like it or not, she herself is one of the conspirators.

Thanks!
