Don DeLillo, honored for his lifetime achievement at the National Book
Awards ceremony Wednesday night, was born on November 20, 1936. He was
not troubled when George Will called him a bad citizen, asserting that
in "Libra,"
his brilliant novel about the assassination of JFK, the novelist
blamed America for Lee Harvey Oswald. No, DeLillo responded, he blamed
America for George Will.
