So I check into the plist during the day

Agreed in the sense that his absence is definitely felt, and that the
experience of the plist is markedly different. Though still very much
believe in the place's vitality.

I should also post way more than I do. With some of the higher-level
discourse (especially politics and history), I feel so much respect for you
guys that I often never feel I have enough time to write a post considered
enough that it'd be worth your attention. I always put it off until I have
time to match all your elegance and the sophistication of your thinking.
(Also I generally procrastinate a lot and am always working.)

But really I love just reading what you guys have to say. Feel very much
like a newcomer, and I usually don't start participating in communities
until I feel like I've been a part of them a while, have fully learned the
rules and am accepted by its members (although the bare-bones nature of
this tribe's communication makes it kind of obvious how much at least some
minimal level of participation is a part of the dues; I could stay on here
a decade and nobody'd know it if I don't write anything).

That said, I have been around long enough to really miss Dave's presence
(as a contributor and just as a dude). I really, *really *appreciate all
you guys sharing memories and appreciations--it was moving, and I really
wish I'd had the chance to meet him.
