I'm in Chicago and don't really have a sense for what the response will be
once the video is released.

This part, I think, is important:

condemned the officer’s actions. Officer Van Dyke “took the law into his
own hands,” the mayor said after charges were filed, “and now it’s up to
the justice system to hold him accountable.”

Rahm's as calculating as they come, and I'm sure that has more to do with
his response than any personal/moral assessment of anything on his part.
But maybe there's something positive to be taken from it nevertheless.
