The hoax thing is stupid, but the Salon piece on it is even worse. Trying to deconstruct why it was believable . . . Please!; it wasn't. At all. Ever.

There was a fake TRP announcement from "Don DeLillo" on Twitter almost exactly like this (maybe even verbatim) sometime in 2013. Even by today's standards, not so far back in history.
