Brilliantly, sadly observed

There is no such thing as oil or energy dependence or independence for the
US. Our consumption is declining, as is consumption in most developed
economies, as it is rising in developing nations, and our production is
increasing, and can be easily and quickly increased, even at current
prices, even as rig counts drop, as tiny and small producers are forced
out, though 2015 numbers are not complete and may show a drop in production
form 2014, but all that said, we buy and sell oil, in dollars, at the price
that the commodity, a very liquid commodity (he he) trades at. Is that
dependence? No. We can satisfy all our energy needs at home. Is that
independence? no. We can do it with trades with our big trade partners,
Mexico and Canada. But we are not going to do that. It doesn't make sense.
Also well said.
