that is a wonderful story

great excuse to write the man

Dear Don

I saw you in the crowd for special showing of Satantango at BAM about 10
years ago. You left earlier than me though I didn't stick it out either. A
few people refused to watch it since the movie was not on film and left
before it started. You know the type, the soup-stained mannequins with flop
house clothes, milling about in front of Cinema Village or Film Forum or
Walter Reade (it might as well be a hospital), waiting pleading for someone
to ask him about Jean-Pierre Melville (its always a him except for a bag
lady I knew who turned up on the news as one of those hoarders; she was
like Ed Koch--you always saw them at the pictures) . Others grumbled they
showed the film late on a Sunday, with work beckoning the next morning. I
think that's why I left.
Daesh so much reminds me of the cult in The Names. You have this quality
about you. You anticipate well. "“Opportunity, adventure, sunsets, dusty
death.”Though you could be talking about the last 100 years (or 1000).
Though I wouldn't be crass as to compare you to how folks like Jack rely on
Hitler in White Noise ("extremely reliable and larger than death", my
quotes).
But who would regale you with quotes or ideas from your books. You're on to
the next one or thinking about the next one. In any case, godspeed.

PS; Man were the Yanks an uninspiring team to watch this year. I blame it
on my Dad who could've been an extra in Pafko at the Wall. always stay
loyal to your team, he says even if they build stadiums that Albert Speer
would appreciate.

yours, best
rich
