Following my third read of BE with Against The Day. Because I've been
paring my library throughout BE, I wrestled with whether to keep it or give
it away. Inherent Vice went. Ultimately Maxine stayed.
Against The Day, there's no debate. I'm loving the legs off it. But I'm
waiting to get to where women have a fair (i.e. less gendered) stake in the
story. Something not predicated on boy eyeballs girl. Might be a minute.
Only just getting past T.W.I.T.
Anyroad. Point being, I wonder how many women have the time of day for
Pynchon. Has anyone polled this? Or is it generally assumed that he's
kind of the lit equivalent of Captain Beefheart, predominantly of interest
to boys who delight in cacophony?
