I would argue that, after some stereotypical women in the short stories and maybe some of V, his victimized women are because they are. In history, in the world. Starting big with V. Not a generational weakness at all but a deep strength.
Gayness when it was still homosexuality IS even more complex up to and thru Cyprian. In the early use, I would argue, since no even half--round characters are, just flat ones he sets up to 
Satirize swiftianly, homosexuality is virtually an embodied symbol in his early work. Problematic maybe but a symbol nonetheless.
