So I'm browsing in a Thrift store where books are cheap, not going to buy any but seeing all I can see Is a lifetime habit by now. I see a good-as-new copy of a book called Unknown California and I'm not interested but someone I'm close to might be so I pick it up. "Classic and contemporary writing, etc" by Norman Mailer, Wallace Stegner, Henry Miller and THOMAS PYNCHON (he actually had second billing, but I wanted the suspense here).

1985 book. Edited by Jonathan Eisen and David Fine it contains " A Journey into the Mind of Watts" and lots of other interesting pieces, lots from a progressive political pov. It is dedicated to the memory of Carey McWilliams, has Cesar Chavez, john Gregory Dunne, Herbert Gold, Henry George hisself!, the aforementioneds and interesting others. Eisen had previously done some rock music anthologies. His niche I guess.

Yes, it was surely unread but was a signed birthday present to someone. Belatedly.
