Ian RAnkin is an avowed Pynchon fan. I believe he wrote a PH.D. Thesis on his work.
Reading his latest when I am waiting where I am during the day or up at night, I noticed that he does what We've seen P do already. Switch from a person's active thought about something that might be happening ( or have happened ) at the place where she is to the mundane reality that he gets us back to, no transition signaled ( except when we try to reconcile the different few sentences.) Doesn't do it much but.....
