No, the point is that both solutions to Western modernity are equally
reactionary, unworkable, and awful to contemplate. Houollebecq uses his
solution satirically, but 13th Century admiring Brad Gregory seems mildly
serious. Ivory Tower serious. Gregory wrote a book about how every thing
went wrong after the Reformation.
