Some of you might not know --- the English Wikipedia entry, linked to in
the article, does not mention it --- that German expressionism also
includes literature. Especially poetry --- take Georg Trakl, Gottfried
Benn, or Elke Lasker-Schüler ---, but also plays by Hans Henny Jahnn and
Ernst Barlach, or prose by Ernst Jünger (the novellas "Sturm" and "Feuer
und Blut") and, again, Jahnn (the novel "Perrudja").
The term is controversial and often avoided because it seems not
distinctive enough compared to other -isms; sometimes even Heinrich Mann
gets labeled as "expressionist" although his prose is rather
conventional respectively realistic.
