Shadow Country

A lot of the action in the third part of the book takes place not far from where I live in SC. Clouds Creek, Edgefield County.
The Tolens, overseers of Edgar's aunt's plantation, are from the "Flint River country in the Georgia hills". The Flint River runs less than a mile from my grandfather's old house on Flint River Road near Jonesboro, Georgia.
