it is in the story "Small Rain" as well as Crying.

Let's just reflect a moment on low puns and
embryonic feminist awareness when he apologized
for his dickheadedness.

Or is that Pierce meant to be macho? (Remember Oedipa
 and Metzger here)

And, yes, I will be the first to suggest it can be
read both ways--maybe?--in his special way.
