On little Buttercup's whimper in The Small Rain. An association at least, if not overly meaningful.

GR p115 Back at "The White Visitation"..'the dogs whine, bark shrilly in
pain, whimper for a stimulus that does not, will never come"...

But I think there is poignance to Buttercup's sound; a hope for tenderness
from Levine, his 'problem' perhaps as TRP might have meant.
