Re (2), (2.1) etc. I had read The Tractatus before I first read GR, so I
was inevitably reminded of its numbering here in this section. I, however,
did not know what to make of it, of course, since I had no indication
Slothrop knew this work--remember, he ain't the brightest Byron at Harvard,
and philosophy? seems like a non-starter with our loverboy.

Only with a later reading did this occur to me: even before I read either
works,
I had learned a way to outline---which I still use when I'm not lazy---that
this reminded
me of---except I learned to use A) B) C) mostly, with subdivisions
underneath them.

Of course, with TRP we should bet on all resonances, even a surprising
allusion
to early Wittgenstein and his 'logical atomism', which dovetails with other
satirizations
of linearity in this scene but

as what is put down comes from within Slothrop, this numbering now seems
like a
simple, one might say simplistic, attempt--he isn't at his mental best
either, of course--
to organize a few discrete events--notice what is grouped under a number
which did not get very far.
