I still have doubts whether it's about (or even if it includes) the
Holocaust. Here the central act of mass murder is the series of V2 attacks
against London. It is not that Pynchon was insensitive, but his sensitivity
was specifically American. War is Business.  "Jews are negotiable." Which
does not mean he (the implied author)  ​is inhumane but simply he cannot
reconstruct the experience and logic of raw, bloody totalitarianism, where
business means nothing and the laws of organizational sociology don't
apply. Like in the Soviet scenes, where, quite unlike the hyperrealism of
the London scenes, he doesn't make any effort at all to reconstruct
Stalin's Russia.

The "Jews are negotiable" concept, by the way, might have come from the
proposed "Blood for Trucks" transaction in wartime Budapest, which became
public knowledge with the Eichmann trial.
