Partial list of themes in Scene 14.

A long and very rich thematic section, as we've admitted. Pynchon does
some of his finest lyrical writing and rolls out, as if just background
tapestry to
his major plot stories, so many other themes.

para 1) It's all a movie (theater). but reality being filmed. Adds a
'myth-like' framing?
para 2 ) innocent youth overcome with innocent beauty
  "     2-3) mushroom harvest like banana harvest. Mushrooms, a rich
earth-heavy plant, baked.
               60s allusion? "inhale the smoke of".

  "      4) that desolate rain. Urban bad shit again. "city..in all its
bomb-pierced miles: this in-exhaustively knotted victim"....echo of opening
knot...
  " 5) Katje...the oven will "never close'...mirroring 'too often'...The
woman mirrors; the men do.
        outcast connection...color of 'nigger' ....her crepe look     "all
gone to glass and glazing"....
        beautiful negative tropes....
