There is such a difference between different parts of the United States
that to talk about "the cultural and social climate" of the country seems
foolish. Indeed, there is such a range of cultural and social climates in
the Bay Area, where I live. If something is intriguing about those
sentiments, it has to be the posturing involved. My two cents, YMMV.
